THE MYSORE METHOD
This is the traditional approach to learning Ashtanga Yoga.
Named after the vibrant city in South India where it originated, the method allows practitioners to receive individual instruction and keep internal focus. Connecting movement and breath as they flow through a sequence of postures to create a deeply meditative experience. It is designed to reveal the full depth of Yoga, in a progressive unfolding of awareness. To this day, it remains one of the most effective methods of bodywork available to humankind; Never neglecting the weak points of the student, nor catering to the strong, it purifies the body and produces incredible strength, flexibility and clarity of mind.
This method, which has given rise to most modern styles of Yoga, continues to be taught in its purest form by the founding family in Mysore, India - led by our teacher R. Sharath Jois who has given us his Authorization to hold this space in Cape Town, South Africa and continue to transmit the traditional teaching of Ashtanga Yoga.
